Description: numerous clusters of small rose-red flowers grow on the tips of branching stalks at the top of the plant.
These perennial,
open, branching plants are up to 4 feet tall, with narrow opposite leaves that taper to a point. The stem and leaves give off a milky white sap if broken.
Suggested seed treatment: You should provide 30 days of cold dry stratification. All seed that you purchase from Oak Prairie Farm has received dry cold stratification. Direct planting tips: Plant seed in desired location and cover with soil 1/2 inch deep, and firm. Transplants: If you grow transplants from our seed: transplants well up to four year old plants while dormant in spring or fall, trim long roots, plant with buds just below the soil surface, space 2 to 3 feet apart. Companion prairie plants: Joe-Pye weed, New England aster, Wild bergamot, Big bluestem, Indian grass. Comments: Good for butterfly gardens. |
