Description:   Dull purple flowers with drooping petals grow on a stalk at the top of the plant. These perennial, plants are up to 2 feet tall, with long slender rough leaves and a smooth stem.
Attracts: Birds, Butterflies and Honeybees.
Bloom time: From late May through October.
Range:Midwestern prairies and dry open woodlands of the south eastern United States.
Sunshine:Full sun to very light shade.
Moisture: Middle to fairly dry.
Soil types: Sandy loam best.

Suggested seed treatment:   You should provide 30 days of cold moist stratification. Many prairie wildflower seeds benefit by moist cold stratification, some require it to germinate. Seed that you purchase from Oak Prairie Farm has not received cold moist stratification.

Direct planting tips:   Plant seed in desired location in 1/4 inch deep soil, and firm.

Transplants:   If you grow transplants from our seed: transplant while dormant in spring or fall, trim long roots, plant with buds just below the soil surface after the first growing season, space 1 to 2 feet apart. Very vigorous.

Companion prairie plants:    Leadplant, Butterfly milkweed, Black eyed Susan, Big bluestem, Indian grass.

Comments:   Excellent long lasting cut flower, A good choice for the home landscaper. Seed head is a good source of seed for birds during the winter.
