Description: 1 to 2 inch long yellow and red flowers grow on long slender stalks at the top of the plant.
These perennial,
plants are up to 2 feet tall, with compound leaves.
Suggested seed treatment: You should provide 10 days of cold moist stratification. Many prairie wildflower seeds benefit by moist cold stratification, some require it to germinate. Seed that you purchase from Oak Prairie Farm has not received cold moist stratification. Direct planting tips: Plant seed in desired location, cover with 1/4 inch deep soil, and firm. Transplants: If you grow transplants from our seed: transplant the first year while dormant in spring or fall, trim long roots, plant with buds just below the soil surface, space 1 to 2 feet apart. Very vigorous. Companion prairie plants: Yellow coneflower, Wild Lupine, Big bluestem, Indian grass. Comments: Very vigorous. Hummingbirds are attracted to these plants. Nice for the home landscaper. Seeds were once used as a love charm by some Native Americans. |
